Description

Farm Work Days at J & J Second Chance Small Holdings

The University of Wyoming community is invited to join us for Farm Work Days at J & J Second Chance Small Holdings, home of The Goat Ladies, located just outside Rock River, Wyoming. Our rescue is home to approximately 250 goats and other small livestock, and volunteer help makes a huge difference in caring for the animals and maintaining the ranch.

Farm Work Days give students a chance to gain hands-on experience while supporting a local animal rescue and community outreach program. Tasks may include animal care, fencing, ranch maintenance, cleaning pens, organizing supplies, and other general farm projects depending on the season.

Time:
Work days begin at 9:00 AM and typically end around 4:00 PM. Volunteers are welcome to join for the full day or for part of the day if their schedule requires it.

Because the rescue is located approximately 35 minutes outside of Laramie, please plan travel time accordingly. We also provide one hour of volunteer credit for travel time in recognition of the distance.

All volunteers will receive a signed time sheet at the end of the day documenting their service hours.

What to Wear & Bring

  • Closed-toed shoes or boots (required)

  • Clothes you do not mind getting dirty

  • Dress in layers as Wyoming weather can change quickly and it is often breezy

  • Hair tied back due to wind and farm safety

  • Gloves if you have them (some extras may be available)

Lunch Provided
For volunteers working during the day, we provide a simple lunch. Please let us know in advance if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions so we can do our best to accommodate.

Liability & Safety
Because this is a working ranch with livestock, all participants must follow safety instructions from staff and volunteers at all times. Interaction with animals and farm environments carries inherent risks such as uneven ground, weather conditions, and unpredictable animal behavior. Volunteers may be asked to complete a liability waiver prior to participating.

We look forward to welcoming UW students to the ranch and sharing the important work of caring for rescued animals while giving back to the community.
