Happening November 5th from 9am-12pm in the Wyoming Union, CAPS is an interactive experience in which participants (UW students, faculty, staff and community members) are assigned a role in one of 26 possible family units living in poverty. Over four 15-minute weeks, participants try to maintain their basic needs while living in a community made up of other families, businesses, and community services. Each family has different strengths and challenges including extended family support, chronic illnesses, SNAP benefits, and job/school requirements.
Participants will attend the event beginning at 9am on November 5th. The event will begin with the simulation, and after one month of living in poverty has been simulated, we will have a debrief and wrap up around noon. All the information you need to participate (your background, family members, housing situation, etc.) will be provided on the morning of the event. To register for this event, you can do so by clicking here, or by visiting “Cowbell” and clicking ‘RSVP’ on the Poverty Simulation event. Please feel free to share this information with anyone you might think would benefit from participating in CAPS.
