J & J Second Chance Small Holdings & The Goat Ladies is a non-profit rescue in Rock River, WY. We care for more than 250 goats, along with donkeys, ponies, mini cattle, dogs, cats, and birds. Our mission goes beyond rescue — we bring animals and people together through education, events, and outreach.

Volunteer Opportunity:
We’re inviting University of Wyoming students to join us as Community Outreach Volunteers. This role is perfect for students interested in communication, education, marketing, or nonprofit leadership. You’ll help us:

Assist with tabling at events to share our mission

Promote programs like goat therapy, tours, and reading with goats

Help with social media content (photos, stories, short videos)

Work on fundraising projects and donor thank-yous

Support educational visits for schools and youth groups

Celebrate National Public Lands Day and Wyoming Public Lands Day with a day of trail maintenance and other projects! Parents as Teachers is getting a much needed office upgrade.  We will need someone who can help us assemble furniture, desks and cabinets.  Then we will need help moving the old office out.

Opportunity Description:
Help patients safely and efficiently receive their medications by serving as a Medication Pick-Up Support Volunteer. In this role, you’ll assist during medication pick-up hours by checking out medications to patients, recording information in the electronic health record (EHR), and supporting the pharmacy team with organization and data entry.

Responsibilities:

Work at the front desk during medication pick-up hours (Thursdays, 4:50–6:00 PM)

Verify patient information (name and date of birth) before dispensing medications

Notify the pharmacy team if patients have questions about their prescriptions

Check medications out in the EHR system

Help organize medications on site

Occasionally assist with entering filled medications into the EHR

Time Commitment:
Thursdays from 4:50–6:00 PM

Impact:
This role ensures patients receive their medications quickly and accurately while supporting smooth communication between the reception and pharmacy teams. Your help keeps the process organized and patient-centered.

Language Note:
A second language is not required, but knowledge of Spanish is helpful.

Opportunity Description:
Help us keep our patients safe by ensuring medications are up to date and properly organized. At the end of each month, we need someone to go through our medication supply and remove expired or outdated items. This process typically takes 1.5–2 hours. The role is simple but very important for maintaining clinic safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

Review all medications in stock

Identify and remove expired or outdated medications

Organize shelves and supplies for easy access

Time Commitment:
1.5–2 hours once per month

Impact:
Your support helps our clinic maintain compliance, stay organized, and provide safe care for every patient.

Join us this fall to Stitch It Forward! In this program participants will knit or crochet items as part of a fundraiser for the Laramie Soup Kitchen.  At the conclusion of this program, items will be on sale for a suggested donation to the Laramie Soup Kitchen. Makers can also opt to donate their item directly to the Soup Kitchen. All levels of skill and experience are welcome! This program is open to the whole community.

You can stop by to pick up supplies, work together, or drop off donated items in the Union Fireplace Lounge (by Pokes Pub) every Tuesday during the semester from 4-6pm. If you want to pick up supplies or donate but can't make it to these times, email slce@uwyo.edu to set up another time to stop by our office!

There are two tentative "due dates" for donations for items for the fundraiser sale, based on our planned participation in two local markets. The first due date is November 25th, and the second is December 11th. All proceeds from the fundraiser sale will go directly to the Laramie Soup Kitchen.

The City of Laramie Annex Building grounds could use a little TLC, and we’re looking for volunteers to help make a difference. This is a great opportunity to lend a hand by clearing pine needles from the building’s curb and gutters and picking up windblown litter in the nearby parking area. The area includes a dog park, which would also benefit from the removal of pet waste to create a cleaner, more inviting space for the community to enjoy. Looking for a regular, weekly commitment with the Eppson Center? Want to get involved and help seniors, but have a busy life of your own? This is the opportunity for you! Loan Closet attendants are needed from 12-4pm Monday-Friday, with shifts lasting one hour, though you may sign up for as many as you'd like! Our Loan Closet is stocked with essential medical equipment like wheelchairs, canes, walkers, knee scooters, and more, that we loan out to seniors and community members in need. This is a rewarding, social volunteer opportunity, and the best part is that it comes with some down time! Feel free to bring a book or some homework to work on in between helping visitors. 

This volunteer cleanup site is heavily littered, primarily due to wind-blown debris from the nearby Wal-Mart property.  the area is scattered with various types of trash, making it a prim location for a dedicated cleanup effort.  Interestingly, alongside the usual litter, volunteers may occasionally find cash among the debris.  Your efforts in restoring this area will make a significant impact on the environment and local community!

13th Street needs a little help!  The gutters are currently full of leaves, dirt, and debris, blocking water from flowing properly.  this buildup not only causes standing water but also affects the ADA-accessible areas along the street.  

We're calling on community volunteers to help clear the gutters and restore smooth drainage.  Your effort will improve safety, accessibility, and the overall look of the neighborhood-all in just a few hours of work.

We are looking for someone to regularly call bingo on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30!

This is not yet a formal opportunity, but we are trying to gauge possible interest from volunteers. This would be an opportunity for volunteers to work more one-on-one with patrons. Many seniors often need help with tasks and chores outside of the Center, including light housekeeping, moving assistance (i.e. getting rid of a large item or multiple items), or light grocery shopping. This would allow volunteers to provide assistance in a very meaningful way that would make a big difference in the life of a senior.

This is not yet a formal opportunity, but we are trying to gauge possible interest from volunteers. This would be a monthly opportunity for volunteers to spend time with patrons and have the chance to hang out in the Center. We would provide coffee, conversation topics, and games in a laid back setting! This would allow volunteers the chance to engage more with our patrons, and provide meaningful interaction with new individuals.  

This is a great opportunity to get to know patrons and do some meaningful work for them. Everyday, we serve dozens of seniors lunch, and this opportunity would give you the chance to brighten their day. 

Hospice of Laramie is looking for volunteers with their physical therapy license to assist with patients who have physical therapy needs. 

We are in need of volunteers to help our Home Delivered Meals coordinator prepare and seal meals to be sent off to our home-bound patrons. This could be a one-time or recurring opportunity depending on flexibility. 

We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in sitting at the front desk as-needed when our receptionist is out!

The Eppson Center has a medical equipment Loan Closet that is open for use by any individual in the community in need of a wheelchair, walker, cane, knee scooter, and more. These items come in and out of the Center on a daily basis, and thus get disorganized over time. This volunteer opportunity would allow flexible scheduling and independence to come in, sort through items, and get everything put away neatly. We are looking for multiple volunteers to come in when and for as long that their schedule allows.

This volunteer cleanup site has experienced a substantial accumulation of pet waste, significantly impacting the area's cleanliness and useability.  Volunteers are needed to help restore the site to a hygienic and respectful condition for all community members.

Non-Patient Volunteers can help Hospice of Laramie with grounds keeping, cleaning tasks, event prep, etc. These volunteers would not be interacting with patients, instead helping out the house in other ways. 

Hospice House and Community Volunteers assist nursing staff with comfort and companionship of Hospice of Laramie Patients. Can include playing a card game, talking about their families or experiences, helping with light cleaning tasks, or helping give a caretaker a short break to run to the store or an appointment.

Winters in Laramie can mean cold weather, that famous Wyoming wind, and heaps of snow. Many citizens of Laramie struggle to maintain their driveways and sidewalks during this time of the year and could use a helping hand. If you want to help keep our citizens safe and help those who may not be able to shovel snow themselves, this opportunity is for you!

Winter weather can be unpredictable, and unfortunately there is no set schedule for snow. This opportunity will be a flexible opportunity, with locations needing snow shoveling being updated as requests come in. If you would like to participate in this volunteer opportunity, please respond to this opportunity and the City will reach out to work out where you can provide your valuable time and effort to help those in need.

Join us for a fun bike parade in Laramie Wyoming.  We need 4 Crossing Guards to help the crew get across 2 busy streets that don't have lights. 

At SAFE Project we have internship opportunities for Fall, Spring and Summer! To be an intern at SAFE you would need to go through our state-mandated 40 hour training. 

Our interns work closely with our Volunteer Coordinator to make a schedule and an outline of things they wish to learn during their semester. Internships can be done for school credit or for work experience.

Our biggest need is for volunteers willing to work our 24-hour hotline. We ask our advocates to take two 12-hour hotline shifts each month. Hotline advocates are able to do normal day to day activities with only an extra cell phone to carry and respond to. Calls may be anything from crisis intervention, to hospital advocacy, to shelter clients asking questions. 

All volunteers must complete a state-mandated 40 hour training. Training provides information needed to assist survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and child abuse. Training is offered in Spring, Summer and Fall each year.

That's less than 5 years away, and that's why we need your help in transforming STEM education across the state of Wyoming. 

Research proves that early access to STEM education can boost confidence, increase achievement, and ignite potential. STEM programming that is designed to help students build STEM proficiency and gain skills necessary to succeed in the innovation-focused twenty-first century job market is essential. Opt-in programs and those that start in secondary school often only capture those students who have already identified an interest in STEM subjects, thereby excluding many marginalized “at promise” populations, including women and minorities.

What we do:

Valued for its ability to bring inspiration, accessibility, and equity to STEM education, the SAE International A World In Motion® (AWIM®) program is highly regarded for its unrivaled efforts to increase teacher/volunteer confidence and competence to facilitate STEM learning. Through fun, hands-on activities, AWIM heightens STEM interest and understanding while also preparing students for real-world scenarios. As a new AmeriCorps program through funding from Serve Wyoming, SAE needs members like you to help shape the engineers of the future.

Through the SAE A World In Motion (AWIM) AmeriCorps Wyoming program, service members have the power to make a difference and change the lives of PreK-12 students throughout Wyoming communities. This unique service opportunity expands vital access to STEM education for young learners to help them discover their full potential and succeed.

Service members will receive a living allowance and are also eligible to earn the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.

Upcoming service cohorts will work with school and community-based organization site partners in Albany, Laramie, and Natrona counties.

Terms and Applications Process

Three-quarter time terms are ideal, half and quarter time terms considered to support winter, spring, summer programs with our site partners.

We accept applications on a rolling basis starting immediately. We are actively interviewing and hiring for upcoming program needs. We encourage anyone interested to contact us to ask questions and apply as soon as possible.
